Sustainable Design
Our gardens incorporate plant combinations that are both beautiful and functional as a complex ecosystem. Hummingbirds, chickadees, bushtits, cedar waxwings, thrushes, and phoebes are some of the regular birds nesting and feeding in native gardens. Our inspiration comes from the Bay Area, which informs our selection of grasses, perennials, shrubs, vines, and trees.

No weekly mowing, no fertilizers, and no pesticides that harm local wildlife and soil. We install drip irrigation, Laundry to Landscape greywater, and rain gardens that catch winter rain, so your soil stays healthy, erosion stops, and your water bill goes down.

Guided by permaculture and regenerative design principles and inspired by nature, we create spaces that are beautiful, functional, productive, and sustainable. We choose plants that provide seasonal interest and bloom year-round. Design features such as dry stacked stone structures and pathways make room for recreation and are great for children and pets. Grow plenty of fruit with greywater, and plenty of vegetables with local, homemade compost.

Our work is primarily based on permaculture design principles and installation methods, creating sustainable gardens that provide for human needs and foster biodiversity and resilience. We create spaces that work in harmony with nature, without using synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides or other products that disturb the balance of the ecosystem.

Design-build means one team takes your garden from the first plan through construction, and Beyond Gardens adds long-term care as well. Our designers draw the plan from close observation of your site, and our own crew handles grading, hardscape, stonework, planting, irrigation and soil preparation.
